The Steps of Salvation

Repentance is what separates the genuine converts from the fakes. One definition of repent is, "to feel genuine remorse, sorrow, or contrition for a past action or sin, paired with a firm, active commitment to change your behavior and do what is right." Acts 3:19 says, "Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out." This show the connection between repentance and physically turning from something. Repentance is a change of mind and heart, a complete 180 away from sin and towards God.
Many think of repentance as the same as confessing our sins to God, but that is not the case. We can see a clear distinction in Acts 19:18-19. In verse 18, it talks about new Christians "confessing and divulging their (sinful) practices." While we see confession in this verse, I believe verse 19 shows us true repentance, "And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver." Repentance doesn't just say sorry; it's an actual state of being sorry enough to change.
What sinful practices do you need to burn and make a 180 away from? As Christians, we will continue to sin, but we must fight to repent every day of our sinful ways.
